Earlier last week I received almost all of the parts to put the Hand of Light compressor together. I failed to realize that I have to provide my own casing, and am unsure how/where to get a metal shell built to house all of these components.
I also did some additional research on the LM317 voltage regulator that will be used for the power transformer.
Notes:
- Power transformer - device that is used to convert inbound electricity/voltage to a higher or lower value
- 2 main functions - transfer electrical current from a source to a destination, regulate voltage of that current before it reaches the intended destination
- LM317 - adjustable linear voltage regulator (LM337 is the negative complement, regulating voltages below rather than above)
- 3 pins - input, output, and adjustment (conceptually an op amp with a relatively high output current capacity)
(schematic of LM317 in a typical voltage regulator configuration)
Al Lasher's in Berkeley and Electronics Plus in San Rafael have enclosures. A quick google search should also bring up lots of online retailers that sell enclosures.
